How do I use my Windows desktop license with WorkSpaces?

Short description

WorkSpaces provides the following options for Windows operating systems (OSs) that are based on the Windows desktop experience:

• Windows Server 2016
• Windows Server 2019
• Windows Server 2022

If you have a Windows desktop license for Windows 10 or Windows 11, then you can use BYOL in WorkSpaces. Your licensing agreement must allow BYOL. For more information, see What types of Microsoft Licensing Agreements/Programs permit Bring-Your-Own-License (BYOL) on AWS?

Resolution

Prerequisites: To use BYOL for WorkSpaces, you must run a supported Windows 10 or 11 version. Also, make sure that your WorkSpaces configuration meets the BYOL requirements.

Set up BYOL in WorkSpaces

Complete the following steps:

1. Open the WorkSpaces console.
2. In the navigation pane, choose Account settings.
3. Under Bring Your Own Licenses (BYOL), choose Enable BYOL.
   If you don't have the Enable BYOL option, then check if your AWS account is eligible for BYOL.
