How do I add more IP addresses to my existing WorkSpaces subnets?

I can't launch a new Amazon WorkSpaces WorkSpace because there aren't any IP addresses available in the subnets. I want to add more IP addresses to my existing subnets.

Resolution

Important: You can't resize an existing subnet. When you design a subnet in WorkSpaces, it's a best practice to allow room for future growth.

For more information about how to design a virtual private cloud (VPC) and subnet when you register a WorkSpace, see VPC design.

WorkSpaces requires two subnets to launch a WorkSpace. If you're already using all the IP addresses available in your existing subnets for existing WorkSpaces, then you can't launch a new WorkSpace.

To launch a new WorkSpace in your registered directory when you have no available IP addresses, you must extend your current WorkSpaces setup. First, create a new AD Connector with your Active Directory domain. Then, register the AD Connector with new subnets in WorkSpaces.

Note: When you register the AD Connector, WorkSpaces generates a new registration code.

If you use AWS Directory Service for Microsoft Active Directory, then you can use AD Connector to point to your domain controller IP addresses. Complete the following steps:

  1. Open the AWS Directory Service console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Directories, and then select your directory.
  3. Create an AD Connector.
  4. Register the AD Connector for WorkSpaces.

Important: If you use Simple AD as your Active Directory, then you can't use the previous resolution steps.
