I understand you using Session Manager to connect, you need to install the Session Manager Agent.

If you don't have access, create a key pair and temporarily grant SSH access. Alternatively, you can install the SSM Agent when creating the instance in Advanced details > User Data. enter the lines to automatically install on instance startup.

sudo snap install amazon-ssm-agent --classic

sudo snap start amazon-ssm-agent
