Stuck paying for EIP that cannot be released unless I start paying $30/month for a Developer account instead of basic??

0

I have an EIP that is not associated with anything, and it seems to have no rDNS entry. However, it continues to give me this error when trying to release it to avoid paying for it every month:

"The address with allocation id [eipalloc-d08eadef] cannot be released because it is locked to your account."

I have updated the empty reverse DNS field in the UI, and I have cleared out some Route53 records I had that referenced this IP that I had forgotten about. Still, it cannot be released, and i find this a bit ridiculous.

I also ran this command, and got the following repsonse:

aws ec2 reset-address-attribute --allocation-id eipalloc-d08eadef --attribute domain-name --region us-east-1

"An error occurred (InvalidAllocationID.NotFound) when calling the ResetAddressAttribute operation: No ptr record found for [the_IP] ."

How the heck can i clear this and release it?

Hello.

I have also experienced similar errors in the past.
At that time, I opened a case with AWS Support under "Account and billing" and resolved the issue.
Inquiries under "Account and billing" can be made free of charge even with the basic support plan, so we recommend that you check it out.

  • This is basically what I did manage to do. I saw a post from 4 or 5 years ago where it said to file an "email limit raise" request or something, and I just used that.

To the AWS folks - why is this not more publicly shared on how to do this? I don't mind opening a ticket but why must we piggy back of some entirely different form to do so?
