Is it possible to save files to other team members WorkDocs via macro?

0

Hey, from another question:

ACCEPTED ANSWER Hello!

To create a team WorkDocs folder, follow the steps found at Amazon WorkDocs: Creating folders. See To create a team folder.

While there is no way to have a folder owned by multiple individuals, thereby splitting up the amount of storage to each user's account, there is a simple pricing structure for a single account that goes over 1TB of storage in a month. By limiting who creates team folders, you can effectively restrict the additional charges you'd see in a month to a single user.

This is not helpful when it comes to uploading something via macro to (e.g. \WorkDocs\userlogin-amazon\My Documents\ ..). Is there a way to be able to upload to another members personal workdocs?

Hi there.

What kind of macro are you talking about? Language? Software? Using the WorkDocs API either with HTTP or any of the SDKs it should be possible as long as the "macro" has permissions.

I hope this helps.

  • Thank you for the quick response. The special usecase: my team has some excel files that will populate folders via VBA("save as".. and so on) to a WFS(Windows File Share). WFS option will be disabled by end of 2023 so there is only SharePoint or WorkDocs left to work with.

I can archive the same output with VBA saving to a SharePoint address (\share.amazon.com@SSL\sites\sitename...) This step sadly wont work when another user tries to populate another users WorkDocs address (\WorkDocs\userlogin-amazon\My Documents..) - if i run the macro and it is my personal WorkDocs folder it will work

  • If you try to upload a document to a different user folder from your account, outside of VBA (e.g. Windows Explorer) does that work? If the folder owner has granted permissions to the user uploading the document it should work either way.
