[Announcement] Amazon Redshift Maintenance (November 15th 2021 - January 18th 2022)

Major Version (11/15/2021)

We will be patching your Amazon Redshift clusters during your system maintenance window in the coming weeks. The timing of the patch will depend on your region and maintenance window settings. You can view or change your maintenance window settings from the AWS Management Console. After your cluster has been patched, the new cluster version will be Build 1.0.33433. This version includes the following new features and improvements:

• Amazon Redshift: GEOGRAPHY data type provides higher precision results for spatial data with geographic features represented using latitude/longitude coordinates.
• Amazon Redshift: Spatial support for ST_Intersection, ST_Centroid, ST_Transform, and ST_IsRing.
• Amazon Redshift: VARBYTE is a data type for storing and representing variable-length binary strings.
• Amazon Redshift: Support for SHA 256 password encryption.
• Amazon Redshift: Support for Redshift UNLOAD to S3 in JSON format.
• Amazon Redshift: Amazon Redshift ML now supports unsupervised training with K-Means clustering.
• Amazon Redshift: Support for PIVOT and UNPIVOT relational operators to rotate a table turning a column's values into multiple columns and vice-versa.
