WE1T105410002 Instance 1/2 Checks failed

Hi Team,

We are unable to start Instance WE1T105410002 and getting 1/2 Status check failed. We are also unable to check system log as they are empty. Could you please check from your end.

I understand that you are unable to start Instance WE1T105410002 and getting 1/2 Status check failed. You checked the system logs and they were empty.

The instance status check failure indicates an issue with the reachability of the instance. This issue occurs due to operating system-level errors such as the following:

Failure to boot the operating system
Failure to mount the volumes correctly
Exhausted CPU and memory
Kernel panic
Network failed to come up

Please follow the below steps to check the logs.

  1. Launch a new Amazon EC2 instance in your virtual private cloud (VPC) using the same Amazon Machine Image (AMI) and in the same Availability Zone as the impaired instance.

  2. Detach the Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) root volume (/dev/xvda or /dev/sda1) from your impaired instance. Make a note of the device name to be sure it is the same when you re-attach it later

  3. Attach the EBS volume as a secondary device (/dev/sdf) to the rescue instance.

  4. Connect to your rescue instance using SSH or RDP.

  5. Mount the secondary volume. You should be able to see the data and log file.

Additionally, you can review the instance screenshot to see whether there are any boot errors causing your instance to fail instance status checks, this can be reviewed using the steps mentioned here: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/ec2-instance-console-screenshot/
