SES smtp authentication fail

I am having ses smtp 535 failed authentication.

How do I authenticate my SES credential? I created a new SES credential to and I have added the username and key to my .env file. however it is failing authentication. I do not know the step that I am missing.

I have done:

1. created new ses credential
2. I have put password into .env on my website.
