Hello,
Elemental MediaPackage is removing the ability to create CloudFront distributions from the Elemental MediaPackage console when creating a channel.
Therefore, Please use the CloudFront service (https://console.aws.amazon.com/cloudfront ) to create a CloudFront distribution. However, please note, existing CloudFront distributions created through Elemental MediaPackage will not be affected.
You can refer the below link for more information:
Creating a distribution: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/DeveloperGuide/distribution-web-creating-console.html
Further regarding your query on having the option for cloudfront distribution in the input object in the CreateChannelCommand, Unfortunately, at the moment, this feature is not available. As AWS is constantly trying to improve their offerings by gathering customer feedback , I would like you to know there is already a feature request for your use-case.
While I am unable to comment on if/when this feature may get released, I request you to keep an eye on our What's New and Blog pages for any new feature announcements.

Please feel free to reach out for further queries or concerns. Thank you.
Thank you for your inquiry. Please use the CloudFront console, CLI, or API/SDKs to create your distribution. You may refer to documentation here and here.
Ok, but why is the option greyed out all of a sudden from the management console of mediapackage channel creation? is it a permanent change? it was easier to configure a cloudfront cdn that way if i were using the console.
for sdk its fine to use the cloudfront sdk itself, but it was very convenient when using management console
All of the documentation related to connecting Cloudfront to MediaPackage is either completely incorrect, out of date, or otherwise missing or inadequate. Please stop answering this question with useless hyperlinks like https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mediapackage/latest/userguide/cdns.html or https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/DeveloperGuide/live-streaming.html#live-streaming-with-mediapackage. These links are burning trash, and provide ZERO in the way of useful information about how to point a Cloudfront distribution to MediaPackage.

thanks for the clarification
Can you please make a video tutorial/guide on AWS Skill Builder for creating a CloudFront distribution and linking it with a MediaPackage channel/endpoint. I'm using the following documentation but its a little bit confusing https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/DeveloperGuide/live-streaming.html#live-streaming-with-mediapackage
I just started the "Building a Live Video Channel with MediaLive, MediaPackage and CloudFront" digital content on skillbuilder and it looks like it's now outdated with this change
