Some areas of the world can't access my AWS hosted website

0

Hello, I've been getting reports that my website, which is hosted on AWS, is suddenly not accessible from places in Europe like Austria and Hungary. I've confirmed the issue using a VPN that allows me to pretend I'm in those countries - I am not able to access my website using it's domain name. I am, however, able to access it using the IP address. This made me think that it's a DNS problem and I spoke to my DNS provider, but they said the problem is not on their end and that I needed to contact AWS. Of course I'm on the basic plan which does not include technical support, so I'm coming here to see if anyone can help me.

  • I assume you are using CloudFront. Check if there are any restrictions in place[1]. I am not sure what type of content your website is serving. Very unlikely, but it is possible that regional governments or ISPs may have limited the access. Lastly, consider doing a traceroute from the blocked regions to see where the reachability breaks. It would give a starting point to troubleshoot.

  • I am assuming that DNS replication is taking some time. When did you make it live ?

  • There are no restrictions in my settings. My website is a simulation software company for manufacturing. It's inconceivable that any regional government or ISP would limit access. Traceroute is a good idea, I will pursue that.

As for DNS replication - it's been live for years. This just started happening recently.
