workspaces client crashes on launch

0

When I launch the workplaces client on my usual computer, I see the "preparing your login page" popup, and then it disappears. After that, nothing :-(.

When I launch it from a shell, I see this message:

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'$

and then I have to reset the terminal session.

VERSIONS:

  • workspacesclient version: 4.0.1.1302
  • OS version: Ubuntu 20.04.3

I tried the following:

  • uninstalling and reinstalling the workspaces client: no change

  • mv ~/.cache/workspacesclient{,.$(date +%Y%m%d.%H%M%S)}: launching does not create a new one, and no running client either.

  • mv ~/.local/share/Amazon\ Web\ Services{,.$(date +%Y%m%d.%H%M%S)}: launching brings a popup that prompts me to enter my registration code, and then disappears. There is a new ~/.local/share/Amazon Web Services, but no running client.

  • I looked at the most recent log files in ~/.local/share/Amazon Web Services/Amazon WorkSpaces/logs, but nothing was obvious to me.

I can connect to this workspace from other computers, so the workspace itself seems to be fine.

Please help me recover the use of the workspaces client on this computer.

Thanks!

I have experienced this issue with a number of Windows devices, and found that removing the cache folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Amazon Web Services\Amazon WorkSpaces\ then re-launching the WorkSpaces client will resolve the issue. In this scenario, the cache folder is recreated on launch. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone supporting Windows devices that have the same issue.
