Problems in Billing and Cost Management services

0

Hi - This youtube video https://youtu.be/x6ljMni6uxY describes a few issues with Billing & Cost Management issues: #1 : Coupling of Management & Payer accounts (The payer and the management account have to be the same) #2 : Account Tags not available for use in Billing & Cost Management #3 : Cost Category split charge rules not reflected in Cost Management services (like Cost Explorer, CUR etc) #4 : Invoice Configuration cannot use OU - and instead requires accounts to be grouped by accountID #5 : Difficulty in using Split Cost Allocation Data (SCAD) - Need a CUR query that shows how to use it #6 : No ability to control cost columns in 'Custom Billing Views'

Is there any plans to address these ? Are there any solutions for any of these issues?

I apologize, but I don't have specific information about AWS's plans to address the issues you've mentioned or any confirmed solutions for these particular problems. The concerns you've raised are not directly addressed in the available sources I have access to.

However, I can provide some general insights on AWS billing and cost management:

AWS regularly updates and improves its services, including Billing and Cost Management features. While specific plans for addressing these issues are not available, it's possible that some of these concerns may be addressed in future updates.

Regarding discrepancies in cost data across different AWS billing features, it's important to note that there can be differences due to various factors:

  1. Different rounding methods used by various billing features.
  2. Varying data refresh settings between features. For example, Cost Explorer might automatically reflect certain changes that the Cost and Usage Report (CUR) doesn't if automatic refresh isn't enabled.
  3. Different ways of grouping charges. For instance, data transfer charges might be shown separately in some views but as a usage type for each service in others.

If you're experiencing significant unexplained discrepancies or have specific concerns about your billing data, it's recommended to open a support case with AWS. When doing so, provide the specific report name and billing period you'd like reviewed for a more thorough investigation.

For the most accurate representation of your charges, the invoice itself is typically considered the authoritative source. If you need programmatic access to detailed cost information, the Cost and Usage Report (CUR) generally provides the most comprehensive data, though it may require some configuration to ensure it captures all the details you need.

As for the specific issues you've mentioned, such as using account tags in Billing & Cost Management or controlling cost columns in Custom Billing Views, these appear to be feature requests or limitations of the current system. While I don't have information on plans to address these, AWS does consider customer feedback for future improvements.
