Inconsistent monthly number of GET requests

Dear AWS community, may I seek some advice on the monthly number of GET requests to S3, please?

In my recent AWS monthly bills, I have observed a fluctuation pattern in the number of GET requests stated. Every other month (i.e., May, July, Sep, Nov 2022), the number of monthly GET requests stated in the bills went above 140,000/month, while in other months (i.e., Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec 2022), the number of GET requests stated in the monthly bills remained low below 2,500/month. There is an oscillation pattern in the monthly number of GET requests in this case (see the chart below for reference).

I have contacted the AWS support team for bills clarification, unfortunately, they mentioned the bill department has limited technical info on this, and hence advised us to try re:Post. I would appreciate any advice on how I may find out what had caused this monthly fluctuation, please? Or any possible causes that you may suggest?

  • Thank you Lex! I have taken your suggestions and browsed through the resources you recommended. I found out from the AWS usage report that the large number of GET requests in alternate month (i.e., May, July, Sep, Nov 2022 for my case) was caused by the HeadObject operation, and this operation took place within an hour on a single day in those months, would you know what are the possible causes for such HeadObject operation every other month, please? Thank you!
