Are we working on improving the license plate numbers and VIN Numbers recognition from images?

I tried several license plates of different states of US. The results are very inconsistent. Sometimes all the words even are not recognised.
I have a use case to extract only the license plate numbers of all states of US from image as text.
Are we already working on such requirement?
