NICE DCV Pixel issues on GPU

0

so i have nice dcv running on ubuntu, but i noticed when my instance is of GPU, the display shows pixelation

instance type: g4dn.xlarge
AMI name : Deep Learning Base OSS Nvidia Driver GPU AMI (Ubuntu 22.04) 20240520

Enter image description here

if you look at the image you'd see the pixelation, i cannot figure out why this is the case. my dcv config, i have:

[display]
web-client-max-head-resolution=(4096, 2160)
gpu_accel = true
# Property "target-fps" specifies the maximum allowed frames per second.
# A value of 0 means no limit. If not specified, or if set to a negative value,
# the target-fps value will be determined according to the server characteristics
# and the session type
target-fps = 30

[display/linux]
gl-displays = [':0.0',':0.1']

my Nvidia running nvidia-smi is as below Enter image description here

any ideas ?

Your X Windows may not be using NVIDIA GPU.

As per Install and configure NVIDIA drivers, run the following command and restart X

sudo nvidia-xconfig --preserve-busid --enable-all-gpus
sudo systemctl isolate multi-user.target
sudo systemctl isolate graphical.target

For desktop acceleration, you may want to use console session. You can configure a automatic session in /etc/dcv/dcv.conf

[session-management]
create-session = true

[session-management/automatic-console-session]
owner="ubuntu"

Restart DCV server for changes to take effect

sudo systemctl restart dcvserver

You seem to be using the web browser client. Try using a different browser. Microsoft Edge and Chrome may or may not provide better quality due to experimental WebCodecs API video decoding support.

For best results, sugggest you install and use native client from https://www.nice-dcv.com/

  • hi Mike, so i just noticed that when i put in [session-management] create-session = true

    this seems to solve the pixelation, but with this settings, i am unable to create sessions with dcv create-session ID it would tell me maximum session, i figured probably this config settings for console session, and in console sessions you can only have one.

    is there a workaround this ?

  • Suggest you use native client for best results. "create-session" auto creates a console session, you can remove it and create session manually. NICE DCV supports either one console or one or more virtual sessions. If you need multiple sessions, remove "create-session" and only create virtual sessions as per https://repost.aws/questions/QUjtGEpf-eRp-GCJ6YzVXzdw/could-not-create-session-the-maximum-number-of-sessions-has-been-reached#ANuVod0Dc5RwWXIrePQOKQww.
