How do AWS credits and invoicing work in my AWS account?

I don’t understand how to use AWS credits for charges on my AWS account. I’m also not sure how to set up invoicing for my account usage.

Resolution

AWS Credits

Active AWS credits on your account automatically apply towards charges for the applicable services or products. The credits continue to apply until the credits are consumed, the credits expire, or your usage is covered. No action is required from you for the credits to be used. If your AWS account has more than one credit, then the available credits apply in the following order:

  1. Credit that's closest to expiration
  2. Credit with the fewest number of eligible services
  3. Credit that's the oldest

Credits can cover usage only after the credit has been added to the account. Promotional credits can't cover usage before the credit start date.

Root user accounts

For root user accounts, you can share credits across your member accounts. If you're the root user account for AWS Organizations and have active credits, then you can share credits across member accounts in your billing family. You can choose to share credits with specific accounts, or turn on the option to share across all your accounts. For more information, see Sharing AWS credits. For information on how credits are applied when sharing is turned on, see Choose where to apply your credits.

Invoicing

AWS accepts many different payment methods, depending on the AWS seller of record information. You can also change your default payment type, if necessary. With invoicing, you can use electronic funds transfer to pay your AWS bill according to standard net-30 terms.

To receive an invoice for your account usage, contact AWS Support from the root user account. Request an invoice for your account usage and provide the necessary information. You can also contact AWS Support from the root user account to update your billing preference from invoicing to a supported payment type.
