Quotas on new accounts help you gradually ramp up activity. Quotas decrease the chance of large bills caused by a sudden, unexpected spike in the service usage.

You can [view quotas](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/servicequotas/latest/userguide/gs-request-quota.html) for your account on the Service Quotas console. Before you increase your service quota, take the following actions:

*   Use at least 90% of the quota for services with smaller instance types or quota values.
*   Use [AWS Free Tier](https://aws.amazon.com/free/) benefits to increase the activity and usage on your account.
*   Determine whether your service usage requires the quota increase.

If you determine that you still require a higher service quota, then you can [request a quota increase](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/servicequotas/latest/userguide/request-quota-increase.html).
