How can I connect Microsoft Access to Amazon Redshift?

0

Hi all,

I would like to know how to connect Microsoft Access to Amazon Redshift Serverless. I haven't been able to figure this out. Redshift is not listed as "Database" or "Online Service" in MS Access. Thanks a lot.

You can either import or link table using ODBC connection. TO do that, you'll first need to install and configure the Amazon Redshift ODBC driver on the Windows machine where your Access database is.

  • @AWS-User-alantam. Thank you. I have tried to use the ODBC Driver, but I don't know what to enter in "Server". I always get an error. I have tried using the url of ther Serverless connection and the "cluster name". Can you point me to any ressources that show me exactly how to set up ODBC Driver with Redshift Serverless?

  • Server: Set this to the host name or IP address of the cluster hosting the Database you want to connect to. Port: Set this to the port of the cluster. Database: Set this to the name of the database. Or, leave this blank to use the default database of the authenticated user. User: Set this to the username you want to use to authenticate to the Server. Password: Set this to the password you want to use to authenticate to the Server.

You can obtain the Server and Port values in the AWS Management Console: Open the Amazon Redshift console (http://console.aws.amazon.com/redshift). On the Clusters page, click the name of the cluster. On the Configuration tab for the cluster, copy the cluster URL from the connection strings displayed.

  • Thank you! I always get a "could not translate host name. Unknown host" error.
