Wrong application of credits to my bills

0

I have multiple credits to be spent for my AWS usage. Naturally, the credits which are due to expire sooner should be spent first. And this was like this for the past years until the end of August 2022.

In my September and October bills, I noticed that the credits which have longer expiration date are spent first -- and this is bad from the user's point.

The credits are the same as in the previous months, however it seems that the algorithm of selecting which credits to apply first changed in September 1st, 2022.

I asked this to AWS support, but they answered vaguely like this "... certain credits are of the type BeforeEDPDiscounts, and so they always apply before normal credits, which are AfterDiscounts (since this maximizes your savings to apply credits after discounts)."

Is there any other AWS user affected by this change?

Hello,

Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. I understand the concern, and suggest reviewing these resources that may help shed some light on AWS credits, and how they are applied:

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/awsaccountbilling/latest/aboutv2/useconsolidatedbilling-credits.html

https://aws.amazon.com/awscredits/

Also, feel free to respond our Support team and ask for additional clarity on the credit types and specifics to your bill, via our Support Center:

Thanks,

- Rick N.
