Simple query runs so long

Question

I want to get min partitioned date from the view on Athena. For this I have very simple query:

```
select
min(dt)
from database.my_table
```

my_table is view

dt is partitioned

Query worked for half an hour after I canceled it. Why it took so long? I expected to receive data in seconds.

Answer

Even though it simple query it all depends on Query used to create the view ? Athena will run the query behind the view and finally min(dt) on that.
What kind of Athena data source here ? backed by glue catalog ? if partitioned column like date try to use partition index in glue https://docs.aws.amazon.com/glue/latest/dg/partition-indexes.html
