Is AWS Neptune highly available during a maintainence window?

AWS Neptune has maintenance windows, during which the service could go down, especially the write operations since just one of the nodes handle this. Is this a correct statement?

If we have a requirement for high availability, how do we workaround this?

Yes as long as you have multi-AZ. If the primary instance becomes unavailable, Neptune automatically fails over to one of the read-replica instances with a priority that you can specify.
