WorkDocs drive app says storage limit exceeded, but web interface works properly. User cannot upload files through Drive App and windows file explorer.

My 2 colleagues and I have been using amazon workdocs for a few months. I am the admin. Recently one of my colleagues (PowerUser1) has started getting the message "storage limit exceeded" on her drive app, so she cannot upload files through windows file explorer. She can download files. She does not face the upload problem when using the web interface. I tried logging in using the PowerUser1 account on my windows computer and the drive app works properly. Her firewall settings appear to be the same as mine. We have tried rebooting, and reinstalling. My other colleague (PowerUser2) has no issues.

We recently had another user (GuestUser1) leave the company, so I set that person as an "inactive user". I don't see why this would relate to the problem I describe above, but the timing of the GuestUser1 leaving and PowerUser1 having problems seems to match.

Hi, I can help you out here. Do you know how much disk space Poweruser 1 has on her laptop? Do you mind checking this for me? Thanks

  • Thanks for offering to help. I was away for a few days.

Poweruser1 has 2 drives -- one with 123 GB free of 232 GB, and one with 798 GB free of 931 GB. Her "network locations" shows her W drive (the workdocs drive) as about half full.

I was away for a few days so I am just seeing your reply. There is a known limitation with WorkDocs mirroring the available space on the main harddrive. This is because WorkDocs needs an extra X amount of disk space to transfer X amount of data. This sounds like a symptom of that limitation but it may not be the case due to your description of available disk space. To verify, can you try uploading a tiny file and seeing if that works?

  • I got her to try uploading a 1 byte text file and it worked. I then got her to test by uploading some normal files and folders, and that worked properly also. She has been using the web interface for the last few weeks, so this was the first time that she tried the file explorer interface in a while. Strange that it works now and not before. Thanks for your help, although I don't know if this is actually a "solution" or not. Unless you think uploading the 1 byte file triggered a change.
