inserting data from MQTT into dynamodb

I am trying to insert data from my mqtt topic into dynamodb, but the tutorial in the aws documentation does not refer to the new console. I can see the mqtt messages, and can extract the required message. I cannot however insert the data into a table. I have written rules, and given the correct roles the right permissions, but am getting nowhere. Please help!!
