DynamoDB replication cross region

A customer trying to a replicate existing DynamoDB tables cross region. They are trying the following approach. Stream + Lambda

1. Enable stream on the source table
2. Create target table
3. Use Lambda function to capture data from the source stream and write it to the target table

But the jar seems to be deprecated hence they are looking for alternatives. Is a there a way to replicate existing DynamoDB tables cross region with no downtime ?

The other way is to convert to Global tables but that involves a downtime.
