Ubuntu Serial Console Connection Vanished

0

I was working with a new ubuntu instance this morning, alternating between a serial console and ssh connection. I took a lunch break. When I came back the EC2 Dashboard is taking me to a bit of a different instances list. Once I select my instance, the connect button no longer gives an option for the serial connection. I checked and EC2 serial console access is still allowed under the account attributes.

I would appreciate advice on how to get back to where I was earlier.

thanks Cliff

Hello, Below are the few considerations you must remember while using Serial connection with EC2:

  • Only one active serial console connection is supported per instance.
  • The serial console connection typically lasts for one hour unless you terminate it. However, during system maintenance, Amazon EC2 will terminate the serial console session.
  • It takes 30 seconds to tear down a session after you've disconnected from the serial console in order to allow a new session.
  • Supported serial console port for Linux: ttyS0

Check out this troubleshooting document that helps go through the steps in a systematic manner along with the pre-requisites and make sure the method followed by yourself complies by the same.

However in order to access the instance & check the logs, it is recommended to directly reach out Premium Support engineers via a Support Case from the (EC2) team since they have the necessary access needed to check the logs.
