Got answer from support: " ...G4ad instance family has indeed been marked for retirement. The launch restrictions came into effect on Sep 1, 2026, and the final discontinuation date is Aug 31, 2027..."

Based on the available documentation, G4ad instances powered by AMD Radeon Pro V520 GPUs remain part of AWS's accelerated computing offerings. The instance family includes g4ad.xlarge, g4ad.2xlarge, g4ad.4xlarge, g4ad.8xlarge, and g4ad.16xlarge configurations, each featuring 2nd Generation AMD EPYC 7R32 processors with varying numbers of vCPUs, memory, and GPU configurations.
However, I cannot confirm the current regional availability or retirement status of G4ad instances based on the information available to me. The absence of G4ad from specific regional documentation you've observed could indicate changes in availability, but I don't have access to real-time instance availability data or recent announcements about instance family retirements.
For definitive answers about:
- Whether G4ad instances have been retired or are unavailable for new launches
- Which regions currently support new G4ad launches
- Official replacement recommendations for AMD GPU workloads
I recommend checking the AWS Support Center at https://console.aws.amazon.com/support/ to add correspondence to your existing case or open a new case. The support team can provide authoritative information about instance availability in specific regions and official migration guidance. You may also want to review your AWS Support plan options if you need faster response times for time-sensitive questions like this.

AIDR,
was there a public notification, it is not a matter of specific account or client. There are no more AMD GPUs in EC2 available?
- Are g4ad.xlarge / 2xlarge / 4xlarge / 8xlarge / 16xlarge retired? No official retirement has been announced.
The current Accelerated Computing spec page still lists G4ad as a current family with all 5 sizes: g4ad.xlarge | g4ad.2xlarge | g4ad.4xlarge | g4ad.8xlarge | g4ad.16xlarge
The G4 product page still describes G4ad as available, with the same specs: up to 4x AMD Radeon Pro V520, 64 vCPUs, 25 Gbps.

Does any region still support new G4ad launches? Yes, all 8 regions above still show offerings via API when capacity exists. The most reliable remaining regions are us-east-1 (N. Virginia) and eu-west-1 (Ireland) - the original two with the largest G4ad fleets. If your console doesn't list it, check via CLI

What does AWS recommend for AMD-GPU specific workloads? This is the hard part: AWS currently has no successor AMD GPU instance.
G4ad is the only EC2 instance with AMD Radeon Pro V520 (gfx1011 / RDNA1). All newer graphics families are NVIDIA: G5 / G5g = A10G G6 / Gr6 / G6f = L4 G6e = L40S G7 / G7e = RTX PRO 4500 / 6000

So in general retirement of AMD GPU instances went without any public notification which sounds strange cause NVIDIA becomes the only option, monopoly in fact if not consider "in-house" Neuron.
