Route53 DNS Hosting Stopped working

0

On January 18th, my domain Wampei.com - hosted on Route53 and with a valid domain registration there - stopped working. I noticed because my email stopped getting new emails, then I noticed my website stopped.

Route53 doesn't seem to think anything is wrong and when I query in the admin tool there, its fine.

When I do an nslookup anywhere else:

nslookup wampei.com Server: 192.168.1.1 Address: 192.168.1.1#53

** server can't find wampei.com: SERVFAIL

The whois information is correct, but any request to the zone fails.

How can I get this fixed?

Thanks RC

You don't appear to have any Name Servers in Route53 for wampei.com. While whois may display the Name Servers, I wonder if you've actually removed those NS entries somehow from Route53, or the addresses for them have changed.

  • It turns out the as smcstewart pointed out the hosted domain and the dns records don't match. Why this only started this month is beyond me.

I was able to update the domain registration with the hosted zone and BOOM! Its working.

    In summary -

If you have a situation where you have a hosted zone and a domain registration on AWS and it stops working. Make sure the Domain Name Server entries match the hosted zone entires exactly.
