Please refer to the SAP Lens: Best Practice 14.2 – Select and configure EBS types aligned with performance requirements

io2 Block Express is a good option for SAP HANA workloads when you understand and have validated the performance and reliability requirements of your system or witness performance bottlenecks for the following items:

  • you need more than 16,000 IOPS or 1,000 MB/s of throughput from a single volume for your SAP HANA data or log file systems
  • you need sub millisecond latency for your SAP HANA log volume
  • you require storage durability exceeding 99.9% for a single volume. io2 offers 99.999% durability for a single volume
  • you need to be able to scale a single volume to up to 64TB
