Based on the information provided, it appears you're experiencing access issues with Amazon Q topics that you created previously. Since you mention you're the owner of both the Q topic and the underlying dataset but are encountering errors while your colleagues can access them without issues, this suggests there might be a permissions or authentication problem specific to your account.
There are several potential causes for this type of error:
-
Your IAM permissions might have changed or been inadvertently modified since you created the topics.
-
There could be an issue with your authentication session.
-
The Amazon Q service might be experiencing temporary connectivity issues.
To resolve this issue, I recommend the following steps:
- Verify that your IAM role still has all the necessary permissions for Amazon Q Business, including:
- qbusiness:Chat
- qbusiness:ChatSync
- qbusiness:ListMessages
- qbusiness:ListConversations
- qbusiness:GetWebExperience
- qbusiness:GetApplication
- qbusiness:PutFeedback
- qbusiness:DeleteConversation
-
Try signing out completely and signing back in to refresh your authentication session.
-
If you're using Amazon Q in Connect, ensure your security profile has the proper permissions by:
- Opening the Amazon Connect console
- Selecting your instance
- Going to Users > Security profiles
- Selecting your security profile
- Expanding Agent Applications and ensuring "View" is selected for Amazon Q Connect
- Saving the changes
- If the issue persists, it might be a temporary service disruption. Some users have reported intermittent "Amazon Q is having trouble responding right now" errors that resolve with retries or after a short waiting period.
If none of these steps resolve your issue, you may need to contact AWS Support with details about your specific error message and account information.

Hey,
Hope you're keeping well.
Since your colleagues can access the Q topic and dataset but you cannot, this points to an account-specific permissions or session issue. First, open the IAM console and confirm your user or role still has the required Amazon Q Business and QuickSight permissions, especially for accessing datasets and Q topics. If permissions look correct, try signing out and back in, or clearing browser cache to rule out stale authentication tokens. Also check in QuickSight under Manage data that your account is still listed with access to the dataset; ownership can change if the dataset was re-imported or replaced.
Thanks and regards,
Taz
