USB Redirects in Workspaces results in intermittent browser crashes

0

My company recently switched to Yubikey for MFA. We originally used WSP but switch to PCOIP for the USB redirection. Ever since the switch, when redirected is enabled in the workspace via the dropdown under a device, browsers will crash. This error does not occur every single time, I have ran Workspaces with detailed logging and to no avail. There doesn't seem to be a clear answer as to why it will crash randomly. Any help is appreciated, all the basic troubleshooting steps have been covered. It doesn't appear to be a resource issue either, these workspaces are well equipped to handle these type of functions.

The issue you're experiencing with intermittent browser crashes in WorkSpaces when using USB redirection for Yubikey MFA is complex and doesn't have a straightforward solution based on the information provided. However, I can offer some insights and suggestions that might help:

  1. PCoIP and USB Redirection: It's worth noting that starting with version 20.10.4 of the PCoIP agent, Amazon WorkSpaces disables USB redirection by default through the Windows registry. This change was implemented to affect the behavior of USB peripherals when users are using PCoIP zero client devices to connect to their WorkSpaces. If your WorkSpaces are using version 20.10.4 or later of the PCoIP agent, you may need to explicitly enable USB redirection.

  2. Client Version: Ensure that you're using the latest version of the WorkSpaces client. Outdated client versions can sometimes cause unexpected behavior, including crashes.

  3. Detailed Logging: While you mentioned that you've already run WorkSpaces with detailed logging, it might be worth collecting these logs along with any error messages or crash reports from the browsers. This information could be crucial if you need to open a support case with AWS.

  4. Alternative Authentication Methods: If the issue persists, you might want to consider exploring alternative MFA methods that don't rely on USB redirection, if possible within your security requirements.

  5. Test with Different Browsers: If the crashes are occurring in specific browsers, try testing with different browsers to see if the issue is browser-specific.

  6. WorkSpace Rebuild: If the issue persists across multiple WorkSpaces, you might consider rebuilding a WorkSpace to see if the problem is resolved in a fresh instance.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, and given that you've already covered basic troubleshooting, it would be advisable to collect all relevant logs and open a support case with AWS. They may be able to provide more specific guidance based on your exact configuration and the detailed logs from your environment.
