API Gateway considering double slash as a valid URL

I am configuring an API gateway with lambda function below is the attachment.
Why is API gateway URL considering the root slash as a valid API URL? ( example: https://{{host}}/{{environment}}//v1/data-requests). How to make a request invalid when double slash is provided as the API URL

There won't be a double slash in your path. Can you try making a request to:
https://{{host}}/{{environment}}/v1/data-requests?

Thanks for the response, it works with both single and double slash. So the question here when a user tries with double slash it should throw an error
