In the Amazon SES dashboard, under the Sending Identities tab, emails typically show as sent from the domain rather than individual registered email addresses because Amazon SES aggregates data at the domain level for easier management and reporting.
To get data divided by individual email addresses:
- You need to explicitly verify each email address as a separate identity in Amazon SES.
- Use these individual email address identities when sending emails.
- In the dashboard, you can then filter or search for specific email address identities to view their individual metrics.
Regarding registering a domain as an identity:
It's not a useless step to register the domain as an identity, even if you then use individual email addresses. Registering a domain identity provides several benefits:
- It allows you to send from any email address within that domain without individually verifying each one.
- It simplifies management for multiple email addresses under the same domain.
- It can improve deliverability by allowing you to set up domain-wide authentication methods like DKIM.
However, if you need more advanced sending capabilities for specific email addresses (such as using configuration sets, delegate sending, or configurations that override domain settings), you'll still need to verify those individual email addresses as separate identities.
In summary, verifying both the domain and specific email addresses can provide the most flexibility and control over your email sending in Amazon SES.
