Difficulties Accessing AWS Bedrock Models from AWS lambda

0

Dear AWS Support Team,

I’m currently experiencing access issues with AWS Bedrock models. When attempting to invoke a model (e.g., amazon.nova-micro-v1:0) via a Lambda function, I receive the following error:

vbnet Copy code AccessDeniedException: You don't have access to the model with the specified model ID. I’ve taken the following steps to diagnose the issue:

IAM Permissions: Confirmed that my Lambda execution role includes the bedrock:InvokeModel permission. Despite the correct IAM policy, the error persists.

Model and Region Verification: Verified that the model ID and region (us-east-1) are correct and that Bedrock is generally available in my region.

Account Entitlement: My understanding is that my account should be enabled for AWS Bedrock usage. However, I’m concerned that there might be a region-specific enablement or account-level entitlement issue.

Testing Another Model: Attempted to invoke a different Bedrock model, but encountered similar permission issues. This leads me to believe the problem isn’t model-specific but rather related to account access or configuration.

Could you please investigate my account configuration and verify whether my account has the necessary permissions and entitlements to access AWS Bedrock models? Any guidance or additional steps to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you for providing detailed information about the issue you're experiencing with AWS Bedrock models. Based on the information you've shared, it appears that the root cause of your problem is likely related to model access permissions rather than IAM role configurations or regional availability.

Access to Amazon Bedrock foundation models is not granted by default, even if your account is enabled for AWS Bedrock usage. You need to explicitly request access to each model you want to use. This is a separate process from setting up IAM permissions.

To resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the AWS Console and navigate to the Amazon Bedrock service.

  2. In the Bedrock console, locate and select "Model access" from the menu.

  3. You should see a list of available foundation models. Find the model you're trying to use (e.g., amazon.nova-micro-v1:0) and request access to it by following the console instructions.

  4. Wait for the access request to be approved. This process is usually quick but may take some time in certain cases.

  5. Once access is granted, try invoking the model from your Lambda function again.

If you're planning to use multiple models, make sure to request access for each one you intend to use.

It's important to note that having the correct IAM permissions (like bedrock:InvokeModel) is necessary but not sufficient on its own. You need both the appropriate IAM permissions and explicit model access to successfully invoke Bedrock models.

If you've followed these steps and are still encountering issues, please double-check that the IAM role associated with your Lambda function has the AmazonBedrockFullAccess policy or the necessary granular permissions for Bedrock operations.

Lastly, keep in mind that when using Amazon Bedrock foundation models, you are subject to the specific pricing terms set by the model providers. Ensure that you're aware of and comply with these terms.

If the problem persists after following these steps, please provide more details about your specific setup and any error messages you receive, and we'll be happy to assist you further.

Hi,

I can confirm that as of today availability of various Nova features vary across region while model access set up is fine: when I wrote this article re. Nova Pro video understanding features, my code (see article) gets an error in us-west-2 while it works fine in us-east-1.

So, I 'd suggest you to try in a couple of regions as a first debugging code. Also, you need to use an inference profile (see my code) rather than the raw model id to get it to work with Nova. See https://docs.aws.amazon.com/bedrock/latest/userguide/inference-profiles-use.html

Best,

Didier
