Amazon Translate and Punctuation

When using Amazon Translate, the characters --> are being returned as –>. Custom Terminology would be a great solution, however, it's not possible to add because the - is not supported as it is the first character (Amazon protecting against possible code injection.)

Suggestions on how to proceed?
