EMR Serverless integration with Step Functions

I know Step Functions use AWS SDK and it gets updated regularly so my questions:

  1. What is the SDK update cycle for Step Functions?
  2. Do we know if EMR Serverless can be integrated without using Lambda or other compute in between?

Hi Atharva, please find the answer to your queries below:

  1. The SDK update cycle for Step Functions is not public. the service team updates the respective SDK for each sub-version release after performing thorough testing internally which can vary from time to time.
  2. currently, you would need to use compute services like Lambda or a worker to make EMR serverless API calls as currently AWS Step Functions do not support it. this is already a noted feature request to the service team. While I am unable to comment on if/when this feature may get released, I request you to keep an eye on our What's New[1] and Blog[2] pages for any new feature announcements.
