Concern about SES Production Access auto-approvals and degradation of service integrity

3

Dear AWS SES Team,

As a long-term and compliant user of Amazon SES, I would like to express serious concern regarding the current approach to automatically granting Production Access.

It has become increasingly evident that SES accounts are being approved too easily — often without sufficient verification — and subsequently misused for mass spam campaigns. These accounts are frequently resold on blackhat forums, causing significant damage to SES’s overall sending reputation and reliability.

This directly impacts businesses like mine that depend on SES for critical transactional and customer communications. Deliverability rates are dropping, and trust in the service is being undermined by the abuse of illegitimate senders who exploit the current auto-approval system.

I respectfully request AWS to:

Reassess the current SES Production Access approval workflow;

Introduce stronger, layered verification and manual oversight;

Increase enforcement against account abuse and resale.

Maintaining the trust and deliverability of Amazon SES is essential for thousands of businesses. I urge you to take action before this erosion affects more legitimate users.

I fully agree with this concern. As someone who legitimately uses multiple SES accounts for real business purposes, I’ve seen a noticeable drop in reliability and deliverability over the past few months.

Getting production access used to be a serious process — justifying use cases, verifying domains, manual reviews. Now, with auto-approvals, I've noticed SES accounts being sold in bulk on various forums at extremely low prices. These are being used for spamming, and it’s ruining the ecosystem for everyone else.

What’s worse is that we, the legit senders, are now facing more frequent account reviews, delays in sending, and lower sending limits. It feels like we’re being penalized while spammers exploit cheap, disposable accounts with no real consequences.

Auto-approval might make onboarding easier, but it’s opening the door to abuse — and the cost is being paid by serious users trying to maintain trust and compliance.

Hope AWS takes this seriously. Quality should never be sacrificed for quantity.
