How Does AWS Instance Scheduler Affect AWS Backup Jobs?

0

Hello all,

I currently have AWS Backup services set up for both EC2 instances and RDS databases. These backup jobs are scheduled to run every 2 hours with a retention period of 15 days. Now, I'm planning to implement AWS Instance Scheduler during non-business hours (from 9 pm to 5 am) to reduce costs for both RDS and EC2. My concern is how this scheduling will impact my backup jobs, and what steps can I take to ensure that my Instance Scheduler works smoothly without disrupting my backup processes?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Rakesh

  • As long as The AWS Instance Scheduler is only shutting down instances and DBs, then the backups should commence as planned. If the instances get terminated, then the backups will not be possible.

You should also be able to verify this behavior by shutting down an instance for 2 hours and verifying that the backups are still happening.

Hi there.

AWS Backup works by creating snapshots of your instances, therefore, it should be able to accomplish the task even if the instance is shutdown. The only problem might arise if while performing a backup the instance is terminated.

I hope this helps.
