Report Schedules QuickSight

0

Hello, We are currently facing an issue with the Schedules feature in QuickSight, enterprise edition. Authors are not able to run their own schedules, they can only see schedules I created myself (I am the dashboard developer.) However, this QuickSight article states they should be able to (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/quicksight/latest/user/sending-reports.html): "QuickSight authors can run scheduled reports with the Report now button in the QuickSight console"

On top of that, the same thing happens with dashboard viewers. They are also unable to schedule their own reports for themselves. However, that same QuickSight article says (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/quicksight/latest/user/sending-reports.html): "QuickSight dashboard viewers can also schedule their own reports for themselves from a QuickSight dashboard." That same article then references to this: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/quicksight/latest/user/reader-scheduling.html

Scheduling configuration list is checked off. Any suggestion on how we can make schedules work?

Thank you. Kind regards,

Gian Marco

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention, Gian Marco. I understand your frustration with the Schedules feature in QuickSight Enterprise edition. Let me clarify a few points and offer some suggestions.

First, regarding authors running their own schedules: You're correct that QuickSight authors should be able to run scheduled reports using the "Report now" button in the QuickSight console. If authors are unable to see or run schedules other than the ones you've created, this could indicate a permissions issue or a recent change in functionality.

As for dashboard viewers scheduling their own reports, this is indeed a feature that should be available. QuickSight has recently introduced a feature called "reader scheduling" which empowers viewers to create their own report schedules. Each viewer can define up to five schedules, but they can only schedule emailing of reports to themselves.

Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Ensure that the latest QuickSight features have been enabled in your account. Sometimes, new features need to be manually activated.

  2. Double-check that the users have the appropriate permissions. Authors should have full access to the dashboard, and viewers should have at least read access.

  3. Verify that the "Scheduling configuration" is properly set up for each dashboard. This should be checked off, as you mentioned.

  4. For viewers, make sure they are accessing the dashboard directly and not through an embedded view, as some features may be limited in embedded scenarios.

  5. Confirm that the users in question have completed the sign-up process to activate their subscription as QuickSight readers, authors, or admins.

  6. Check if there are any AWS service limits that might be affecting the scheduling feature, such as the limit of 5,000 members for scheduled emails.

If after checking these points the issue persists, I would recommend contacting AWS Support for further assistance. They can provide more specific guidance based on your account configuration and may be able to identify any underlying issues preventing the proper functioning of the Schedules feature.

Remember, features in cloud services can sometimes be rolled out gradually, so it's possible that this functionality is still in the process of being made available to all users. Staying in touch with AWS Support and keeping an eye on QuickSight documentation for updates would be advisable.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question thoroughly. I see the "reader scheduling" new feature that, though, comes along with a new $500 subscription for pixel-perfect reports, new feature that came out mid 2024.

Speaking of Authors, they are still unable to schedule their own report. When you say "Authors should have full access to the dashboard", what do you mean?

    Thanks. Kind regards, Gian Marco
