AWS SES emails not delivered to @t-online.de and @freenet.de

2

Hi there,

since a couple of days, emails are not being delivered to email inboxes @freenet.de and@t-online.de (large Germany email service providers). We receive the following info on these emails:

Reporting-MTA: dns; b224-118.smtp-out.eu-central-1.amazonses.com

Action: failed
Final-Recipient: rfc822; xxx@freenet.de
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 554 4.4.7 Message expired: unable to deliver in 840 minutes.<458 Ratelimit exceeded>
Status: 4.4.7
Reporting-MTA: dns; b224-117.smtp-out.eu-central-1.amazonses.com

Action: failed
Final-Recipient: rfc822; xxx@t-online.de
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 554 IP=69.169.224.117 - A problem occurred. (Ask your postmaster for help or to contact tosa@rx.t-online.de to clarify.)
Status: 5.3.0

I fear the AWS SES have been blacklisted. Is there anyone who can double check this? We send transactional emails (order confirmation, shipping confirmation, etc.) for our webshop and haven't done any changes to the email templates or the email configuration. Only these two email service providers are affected.

Many thanks for your help!

Same here, T-online rejects emails sent from AWS in Charlotte.

Were you able to fix your problem?

No matter if the mails are sent from eu-central-1 or eucentral-west-1 - they do not arrive and after 840 minutes we receive the bounce notification.

The mails are probably sent by Amazon via shared IP addresses by default [src]. So it could be that such addresses ended up on a spam list of t-online, if someone used it to send spam on a large scale.

Alternatively, you can rent a dedicated IP address that is exclusively assigned to you and is not shared with other AWS users - this will probably cost $25 per month [src].

Before I take this step, I would like to make sure that this is a working solution.
