Hosted Zone Necessary for Google Suite to Function?

I am in the process of closing a charity. The website has already been taken down but I am trying to keep email functioning for as long as possible. The domain was renewed in January so is good for the rest of the year. Do I also need to keep a hosted zone (with associated monthly charge) working to keep emails to and from @domainname.org functioning? Emails are managed through Google Suite.

Apologies if this is a stupid question - I inherited the email setup from my predecessor and am not IT minded!

Hello.

If the hosted zone for "domainname.org" disappears, you will probably no longer be able to use email.  
Therefore, if you want to keep only the email function, you need to keep the domain settings as well.  
I think that MX records etc. are probably set in the hosted zone for mail settings, but please make sure that this does not disappear.
