Can I use Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition licenses from AWS, with SAP workloads?

Question

I understand from the SAP on AWS technical documentation, Microsoft SQL Server for SAP NetWeaver on AWS Deployment and Operations Guide, that it’s possible to use AWS supplied licenses of Microsoft products for SAP workloads, including Microsoft Windows Server, and Microsoft SQL Server. As AWS provides an option for a Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition license, can I use this with my SAP workload on AWS?

Accepted Answer

For SAP NetWeaver based environments such as SAP ECC, only Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition is supported by SAP. The requirement to use Enterprise Edition is outlined in several SAP Notes, including SAP Note 2497147 - SAP DBSL connectivity to Microsoft “SQL” or “SQL Server” branded products. For non-NetWeaver based solutions, check their respective documentation for details, as some other products such as SAP Business One, include support for other editions such as Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition, as noted in Platform Support Matrix for SAP Business One.
