AWD Shield advanced price for AWS Org

0

Hello, I would like to confirm the pricing structure for AWS Shield Advanced within an AWS Organizations setup. Specifically, if the primary monthly fee for Shield Advanced is $3,000, does this fee cover all accounts under the consolidated billing family, or will we need to pay $3,000 for each individual account subscribed to Shield Advanced?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Thank you for your question about AWS Shield Advanced pricing within an AWS Organizations setup. I'd be happy to clarify this for you.

For AWS Shield Advanced pricing within an AWS Organizations structure, the $3,000 monthly fee generally covers all subscribed accounts under the consolidated billing family. Here's how it works:

  1. When multiple accounts within the same AWS Organizations consolidated billing account family are subscribed to Shield Advanced, one subscription price covers all of these subscribed accounts.

  2. The monthly fee is billed to the payer account of the organization, regardless of whether the payer account itself is subscribed to Shield Advanced.

  3. This consolidated pricing applies as long as the organization owns all of the AWS accounts and all of their resources.

It's important to note that while the monthly subscription fee is consolidated, there may be additional usage-based fees. For example, there are data transfer out usage fees that apply to AWS Shield Advanced, which are separate from the monthly subscription fee.

Also, keep in mind that this pricing structure applies to standard AWS customers. If you're an AWS Channel Reseller, the pricing and billing might be different, and you should consult with your account team for specific guidance.

Lastly, if you have multiple organizations and want to consolidate billing across them, you may be able to pay one subscription fee across all of the organizations, accounts, and resources, provided you own all of them. In this case, you would need to contact your account manager or AWS support to request a fee waiver on the AWS Shield Advanced subscription charges for all but one of the organizations.

Remember that while Shield Advanced covers standard AWS WAF fees for protected resources, it doesn't cover non-standard AWS WAF costs or AWS WAF usage for resources not protected by Shield Advanced.

This pricing structure allows for cost-effective implementation of AWS Shield Advanced across multiple accounts within an organization, providing enhanced DDoS protection without multiplying the base subscription cost for each account.
