FSx ONTAP SVM Stuck in Deleting state - charges increasing despite deletion attempts and I don't the service is running and i cannot able to pay the amount.

Hi AWS Community,

I’m facing a serious issue with my AWS account regarding FSx for ONTAP. I accidentally launched FSx and did not realize it was generating high charges. Once I discovered this, I took steps to delete the service, but I’ve been unable to stop the billing due to the following problem:

The Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) has been stuck in “Deleting” status for over 24–48 hours.

There are no volumes, no backups, and no endpoints attached to the SVM.

The FSx file system cannot be deleted because the SVM deletion is not completing.

I do not have an EC2 instance or access to ONTAP CLI.

I tried using AWS CloudShell and AWS CLI to retry deletion, but it remains stuck.

The billing is continuing to increase, even though I have no control left.

I have contacted AWS Support, and they’re monitoring the case, but no resolution yet.

I’m requesting urgent help to:

  1. Force delete the stuck SVM and the associated FSx service.

  2. Stop or freeze any further billing while the issue is being resolved.

  3. Waive the charges if possible, as I did not intend to incur these and cannot afford the amount.

I’ve followed all relevant AWS documentation, including:

FSx SVM deletion troubleshooting

Please let me know if there's any way to escalate this issue or take further action. I would really appreciate any advice or assistance. Thank you.

Best regards, DV Konda

I encountered this issue last time and finally deleted it through AWS support to force deletion from the back, yu may try again by using AWS CLI:

aws fsx delete-storage-virtual-machine --storage-virtual-machine-id <SVM-ID>
