Clarity on "Default" SES Sending IP Pool

0

Good Morning,

I wonder if someone would be able to provide some clarity on the 'default' sending IP pool option, i.e. what IP pools/addresses that this setting uses (shared, managed, dedicated or a collection of all types?).

We currently have 1 dedicated and 1 managed IP address in use within our region and when I go to create a new Configuration Set (using the following breadcrumbs):

Amazon SES >> Configuration: Configuration sets >> Create Set >> Sending IP Pool (dropdown menu)

I have four options available to me, when assigning an IP pool to a configuration set:

  • default
  • ses-shared-pool
  • ses-default-dedicated-pool
  • ses-managed-dedicated-pool

The latter 3 are clear though the docs found here -https://docs.aws.amazon.com/ses/latest/dg/managing-ip-pools.html, but I'm unclear on what the behaviour is for the 'default' IP pool.

Many Thanks,

The "default" IP pool in Amazon SES refers to a shared pool of IP addresses managed by AWS. These addresses are used for sending emails when you do not assign a dedicated or managed pool to your configuration set. It's primarily shared with other SES users and doesn't include your dedicated or managed IPs.

  • Hi Giovanni. Thanks for your reply. Does this mean that the "default" and "ses-shared-pool" options provide the same behaviour/function?
