This blog covers the best practices to migrate an on-premises SAP ASE (Sybase) database to an Aurora PostgreSQL database using AWS Schema Conversion Tool (AWS SCT) and AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS). https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/database/migrating-from-sap-ase-to-amazon-aurora-postgresql/

I don't know if anyone here knows how to migrate SAP systems to on premises, but I'm involved with one SAP ASE system with its production and non-production environments hosted in AWS for a couple of years now, after migrating it there from two on-premises HP-UX platforms. To my understanding, the current SAP ASE 16 major version is the last one SAP is ever intending to release, and active development investments have ended already. I believe they announced a few years ago that support for ASE would end in 2025 but that it's since been extended until December 31, 2027 (ref reply from SAP support: https://community.sap.com/t5/enterprise-resource-planning-q-a/regarding-extended-maintenance-for-sybase-ase/qaq-p/12774107).

I just thought to mention this in case your customer might perceive migrating to SAP ASE as a future-proof course, which it most certainly isn't, as far as I know. PostgreSQL is open source that can be run anywhere, either in public clouds or on premises.
