Question

I run a wordpress website earthjay.com and want to host this site at aws. I also have about 200gb of data that are part of the website, but not part of wordpress. A colleague mentioned that I could place this on AWS S3 but I don't know what the best approach is going to be for my needs. do i have everything on lightsail, or do i put the data on S3 (?) and have the wordpress site on lightsail? i am guessing that lightsail is the best webhosting option since i am hosting only one website.

my website's main purpose is to publish earthquake reports that are used internationally to help people learn and teach about earthquakes and plate tectonics. this site is not monetized and is a 100% volunteer based effort (on my part). thanks in advance for helping me learn about the best option for my usage. be well, jay

AWS LightSail is a platform as a service (PaaS) mainly targeted for web hosting with Virtual Private Servers (VPS) for lower cost. Its intended to provide a simple web user interface to Manage the Servers and basic configuration arround it. This is not recommended for highly scalable applications which utilizes Elasticity in Cloud.

Amazon S3 is a great service to safely backup your data where redundancy is guaranteed and the cost is fair.

Read this 3rd party article on comparisons between the 3, however it is supposed to be used only for reference.

You should consider [Amazon Lightsail ](https://aws.amazon.com/lightsail/) since it would really simplify your deployment and ease you into AWS.
