Multiple Browsers

0

We are trying to sign into AWS on multiple browsers, but have thus far been unsuccessful. We used to be able to login on multiple browsers using the same password, but now there is an additional step required that involves a new passkey that only one of us seems to be able to use. Others are asked to insert a security key in the USB, which we cannot do.

How do we go back to how our AWS office system was before these additional security measures were implemented? If that is not possible, how can we enable all of the team members to login to AWS with the same account?

It appears that your organization has recently implemented enhanced security measures for AWS account access, which is causing difficulties for your team. Unfortunately, it's not possible to revert to the previous, less secure login method. AWS continuously improves its security features to protect user accounts, and these changes are typically permanent.

The new passkey system you're experiencing is likely a form of multi-factor authentication (MFA) using FIDO2/WebAuthn security keys. This is a more secure method of authentication compared to just using a password.

To enable all team members to access the AWS account, consider the following options:

  1. Register multiple passkeys: AWS allows you to register multiple passkeys for a single account. Each team member could register their own passkey, enabling them to log in securely.

  2. Use IAM users: Instead of sharing a single account, create individual IAM (Identity and Access Management) users for each team member. This is a best practice for security and accountability.

  3. Implement AWS Single Sign-On (SSO): This allows you to manage access centrally and enables users to log in with their existing corporate credentials.

  4. Use temporary credentials: For programmatic access, you can use AWS Security Token Service (STS) to provide temporary, limited-privilege credentials.

  5. Consider AWS IAM Identity Center: This service helps you securely create or connect your workforce identities and manage their access centrally across AWS accounts and applications.

If you're still having issues, it's recommended to contact your AWS account administrator or AWS Support for assistance in setting up a solution that works for your team while maintaining the necessary security standards.

Remember, reverting to less secure methods is not advisable, as it could potentially expose your AWS resources to security risks. Instead, focus on finding a secure solution that works for your team's workflow.
