Will a running EC2 instance with Centos 7 keep running after EOL

0

Hello guys,

we have a couple of systems running with Centos 7 instances and we would like to keep them running for a while, before making the migration to a newest OS. I understand that we will not be able of creating new resources but I am more concerned about the servers that we currently have.

Do you know if we will have any issues about that? Will they stop working at the specified EOL date or will they keep running even if we have to stop/start them?

Thank you.

Hello.

If the EC2 is already running, it will not disappear even if the OS support ends.
However, even if vulnerabilities are discovered, security patches will not be provided, so we recommend moving to a new OS as soon as possible.

Please refer to Can I keep CentOS Linux 7 after the end-of-life notification?.

Since CentOS 7 will no longer receive software updates after June 2024, you may want to explore migration options as listed at https://aws.amazon.com/linux/commercial-linux/centos/.

You can also use Application Migration Service(MGN) to migrate your CentOS to a new Rocky Linux EC2
