Customized CIS Marketplace Templates: Eligible for Saving Plans?

0

How can I determine if a new instance template created based on a CIS (Center for Internet Security) image through the marketplace is eligible to enter the savings plan? Considering that the template has been customized and is not directly consumed by the marketplace, I would like to know if it is still possible to take advantage of cost savings when creating instances from this template.

To determine if instances launched from a custom template based on a CIS image from the AWS Marketplace are eligible for savings plans, you need to consider the following factors:

https://aws.amazon.com/savingsplans/faq/?nc1=h_ls

Usage of Standard Compute Instances: Savings Plans offer cost savings for usage of EC2 instances (including instances launched from custom AMIs) regardless of the operating system or image used. As long as the instances meet the requirements for Savings Plans, you should be able to benefit from the cost savings.

Applicable Regions and Instance Types: Savings Plans apply to EC2 usage in specific AWS Regions and for certain instance types (e.g., standard, convertible). Ensure that the instances launched from your custom template fall within the eligible regions and instance types covered by your Savings Plans.

Matching Attributes: Savings Plans require that the instances launched match certain attributes, such as instance family, instance size, and operating system. Ensure that the instances launched from your custom template match these attributes to maximize savings potential.

Utilization Commitment: Savings Plans offer different commitment options (e.g., All Upfront, Partial Upfront, No Upfront) with corresponding discounts. If you have purchased a Savings Plan with an upfront commitment, ensure that your instance usage meets or exceeds the committed amount to realize the maximum savings.

Check Savings Plan Coverage: You can check the Savings Plan coverage details in the AWS Cost Explorer or AWS Billing and Cost Management console. This will help you determine if your instances are eligible for savings under your existing Savings Plan or if you need to adjust your commitments or purchase additional plans.

If you have any doubts or need further assistance, you can also reach out to AWS support for clarification.

Hope it clarifies and if does I would appreciate answer to be accepted so that community can benefit for clarity, thanks ;)
