Need to Reassign Elastic IP from Old EC2 to New EC2 Instance

0

My previous EC2 instance (now terminated) became corrupted, and I had several configurations tied to its Elastic IP address. I have launched a new EC2 instance and assigned it a different IP. However, I need to reassign the old Elastic IP to this new instance to maintain continuity across services.

Is it possible to reassociate the old Elastic IP with the new EC2 instance?

If yes, what steps should I follow to do that safely?

If the Elastic IP was accidentally released, is there any way to recover it?

Please advise on the best approach.

Hello.

Do you still have the old Elastic IP address in your account?
If so, you can move it by detaching it from the old EC2 instance and attaching it to the new EC2 instance.
You can replace it by following the steps in the document below.

If you accidentally release an Elastic IP address, you can restore it by following the steps in the following document.
However, this only applies if you have not acquired an Elastic IP address in another AWS account since releasing it.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/using-instance-addressing-eips-releasing.html

You can't recover an Elastic IP address if it has been allocated to another AWS account, or if it will result in your exceeding your Elastic IP address limit.
You can't recover tags associated with an Elastic IP address.
